Sept 29th Meeting Overview by Gary Fachin

This is the last meeting to be reported by this scribe this Rotary Year.  For those who are wondering how a thirty-day month can have five Wednesdays, don't ask me. I'm sure that one of the bankers in the club can explain it by using the same math they use to accrue interest on your loan.

Any errors in the following report may be attributed to the fact that it was composed primarily while your scribe was high (25,000 ft over Arizona, heading to Houston).

The meeting was conducted flawlessly by PRESIDENT CAROL SMITH, who performed perfectly with absolutely no errors, as has been her custom from the beginning of her reign. This accurate assessment bears no causal relationship, direct or indirect, to the monetary sanction levied on this scribe for mentioning a possible, potential, miniscule, de minimis error that this scribe improperly perceived as being somehow associated with President Carol in her impressive report of a previous meeting.

After the customary opening preliminaries perfectly performed by some of the usual suspects, including NICK MEARS,  JOHN VASINDA, JOE HANSON and this writer , birthdays were observed, including those of JIM BELL, LOUISE WEBER, and ANNE FONSECA.  BEE and BERNARD BARMANN's anniversary was also a cause for recognition. 

The program was presented by SCARLETT SABIN, manager of Ronald McDonald House, a Rotary partner.  This facility at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital provides a refuge for families who have children receiving medical care and treatment at the hospital.  It is available for families who would otherwise have to bear burdensome costs beyond their means to have living quarters while their children receive treatment.  Ms. Sabin gave a presentation that was both inspiring and heartwarming.  It should be noted that Scarlett is an active Rotarian.

The Munching with Mueller Club, aka the Lounging with Larry Committee, aka the Talking with a Texan Time, aka Partying with a Past President, aka the Diners' Club, will be held at the Elephant Bar on  October 8, at 6:30 pm.  Please let LARRY MUELLER know if you plan on attending what should be an enjoyable dinner.

The October 6 meeting will be graced with DISTRICT GOVERNOR DEEPA WILLINGHAM's visit.   Please come and bring a guest to this important occasion.
